Project Description
PRISON MINISTRY
Based in the ancient city of Lviv, Door of Hope funds and distributes items into prisons for young offenders. Through the direction of our good friend Pastor Misha Kenio, beds mattresses, extra food, art materials, books, items of hygiene, musical instruments have been provided. We also provide small financial assistance to our Christian workers who have had the joy of seeing murderers turn to Christ and receive water baptism.
Our work also includes working with children who range from 12 – 17 yrs. Their offences range from shoplifting to murder. Pastor Misha and his wife Galina continue to work daily for these underprivileged children, showing them support and encouragement.
Many adults and teenagers are awaiting trial and some of them are serving sentences, called SIZO (remand). Usually there are 10 to 20 teenagers from 14 to 18 years old.
There is also a prison hospital for inmates with cancer in which there are approximately 130 patients from all over Ukraine. Among them are teenagers who we also visit and support.
“We thank you for your continuous prayers and support.”
In a small village where there is little to no employment and just one local school, the Angel of Light sits proudly within Zhelannoye, caring for children who have been mentally scarred by the sadness that has happened to them.
With the growing number of children and families now attending the centre, Door of Hope and Link to Hope were delighted to finance the purchase of a larger and more useable Angel of Light Centre, making clubs within the centre easier to run, clubs like:
TEENAGERS IN “REMAND” PROGRAMME
In this program teenagers range from 14 to 18 years old. They are children who are awaiting trial. Recently we celebrated the Easter holidays with these children. We visited them taking 19 hampers of food. One hamper consisted of lemons, tangerines, apples, onion, garlic, butter, cheese, tea, fast cook pasta, chocolate, different kinds of biscuits, sugar and traditional homemade Eastern bread.
Beside hampers we also brought items of personal hygiene – tooth brushes, tooth paste, soap, wipes, disposable razors and towels. In one сell for teenagers, we installed a boiler (second hand) to heat water, also taps and a renewal of sewers.
